MUD is a collaboration between 30 Bird, public works and St Matthew’s Primary School, placing cultural activity in the heart of an educational environment. A physical space for creativity, play, exploration and curiosity.

MUD consists of five outdoor multi-functional spaces – a new cultural location for Cambridge. The first of these, The Factory, was installed in October 2013. The Factory is a Public Art Commission by Cambridgeshire County Council.

Conceived out of their ideas, their drawings and their connection to the school, MUD has been created over a period of 18 months by and for children, their families, staff and the local community.

MUD will work in partnership with regional and national festivals, artists, venues, museums, scientists on a programme of cultural activity with and for children. In April 2014 we worked in partnership with Cambridge Literary Festival on The Story of Things, a participatory creative writing workshop and installation, open to the public, on and around The Factory.

MUD is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, Cambridgeshire County Council. Cambridge City Council, St Matthew’s Primary School, Kier and Mouchel.
